PICOS OF EUROPE: Buferrera mines.Abandoned manganese mines, whose activity ceased definitely in 1972. They are located very close to the Pedro Pidal Visitors Center, near Enol lake, in the heart of the Picos de Europa National Park. Some galleries have been rehabilitated and information panels have been installed in order to allow public tourist visits. The mineralization consists in iron and manganese oxides forming irregular lenses in karstified Carboniferous limestones.
