Miróbriga ruins

SANTIAGO DO CACÉM (Portugal): Roman ruins of Miróbriga.

Miróbriga is the name of an ancient Roman city located near Santiago do Cacém, in south-west Portugal. Its ruins have been excavated and are nowadays a touristic attraction.
The excavations revealed that Miróbriga, whose Roman town stood on the site of an Iron Age settlement, was occupied between the first and the fourth century. A forum with a central temple that was clearly devoted to worship of the Roman Emperors was built at the highest point of the town, while another temple in the same area was probably dedicated to the goddess Venus.
